Most visitors to Vietnam need a visa to enter the country (except the citizens holding valid diplomatic passports are exempt from visa requirements )
Three are 2 way to apply for a visa to Vietnam :
- I : Visa on arrival ( obtain your entry visa at Airports )
- II : Visa approval ( obtain your entry visa before departure by applying to the Vietnam Embassies/ Consulates in your country )
Some advices for Visa to Vietnam:
* If you enter Vietnam by Airway , best choice is "Visa on arrival"
* If you enter Vietnam by land borders from Laos, Cambodia & China, best choice is "Visa approval"

1, By Yourself :
- It is easy to get " Visa on arrival " at 3 airports in Vietnam :
+ Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi City
+ Da Nang Airport in Da Nang City
+ Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City
The entry visa will be stamped on your passport as you pass through our immigration checkpoint. Valid for 30 days.
Do not worry if your plan to get the " Visa on arrival" at airports, Vietnam welcome tourist visiting with open arms
+ To process the " Visa on Arrival" you need:
- 2 photos of passport regulation size (2in x 2in, or 5.08 cm x 5.08 cm)
- Passport. (valid at least 06 months)
- Cash : from US$ 25 to US$ 100 for Visa Stamping Fees
2, By Vietnamese travel companies
It is easier to get your visa from a Vietnamese travel agency. The necessary information to the travel agency include:
- Full name
- Birthday and place of birth
- Nationality
- Job
- Number of your passport and Passport. (valid at least 06 months)
- Entry and exit dates
How to do : Contact with any Vietnamese travel agency, send to them the information above via email, they will do it for you and time taking around 4 days.
After approva & issued by Vietnam Immigration Departmentl, thay will fax or email you a copy of the Approval Letter as an attachment.
- Please remember to bring at least 2 photos of passport regulation size (2in x 2in, or 5.08 cm x 5.08 cm) and Cash : from US$ 25 to US$ 100 for Visa Stamping Fees
Visa Extensions
+ Tourist Visa extensions cost around US $ 20, The procedure takes two or three days and you can only extend one time for 30 days
Re-entry Visa
+ Re-entry Visa cost around US $ 20, It’s possible to enter Cambodia, Laos or any country from Vietnam and then re-enter without having to apply for another visa
Both of Visa Extensions & Re-entry Visa are easier arrange through a travel agency.
- To apply for a visa, the requirements are as follows :
+ Original passport (which requires at least 06 month validity prior the date of exit from Vietnam). In urgent cases, a loose-leaf-visa can be requested, then a copy of passport (photo and personal detail pages) may be submitted instead of the original passport
+ Application form (The form must be completed, signed and attached with 02 original photo (2x 2in) . In case of a loose-leaf-visa request, 01 additional photo must be stapled to the form. Addtional processing fees for visa approval may be required. ) This form can be download at " Vietnam embassy or Consulate Website" in your country at below
+ Visa fees must be in the form of MONEY ORDER, or CASHIER’S CHECK, or CERTIFIED CHECK payable to “THE EMBASSY OF VIETNAM.” Applicants applying together may submit combined payment in one money order”.
Processing Time :
-Five business days are required to process visa applications with approval. Expedited processing requires one to two business days after the Embassy has received the application (additional fee required).
-Note: Please keep the tracking numbers of the envelopes to and from the Embassy. When the above deadlines have passed, use the tracking number to check with the mailing service first.
-Please do not make telephone inquires on the status of your application (make sure that you keep your passport number for this request) until after the 3rd business day for an expedited case and the 7th business day for a regular case.
